The reason why some teachings about OCD are misleading is due to the fact that most people that teach about OCD actually have not gone through it themselves and it makes it really difficult to help someone when you can't relate to them on an emotional level. What I learned a long time ago is that OCD is not a disease or a disorder even though they named it as such.

I find that many people have a hard time believing that this malady that is so stressful could just be a set of habits and therefore will readily accept the notion that it's a disorder that they can do nothing about.

The problem with this is the fact that their information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is wrong. This simply gives people an excuse to not work to get rid of it. They will simply just turn to pills and think that this will solve all their problems. I cannot blame them either, that is after all what the magic box in the living room says that these pills can do. If it's on tv it must be correct. This is just part of the flawed thinking that we have, we simply believe everything that we see on TV.

I find that the most common sources of information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are doctors and drug companies, therapists and psychologists. Oddly enough, the only place that I've ever seen cases of cures is on the internet. This makes it really hard for people when they go online to believe that there actually is a cure because people in the main stream simply don't accept this. So what do people like me do when they have had OCD and then beat it? We simply have to stick to our guns and educate people who have been lead astray by the drug companies, etc.

The absolute best source for information on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is from someone who has had it and beat it. Not only that, but someone that also knows how to teach and has experience doing so. We both know that the only thing that matters is results. Make sure that if you work with someone who helps people with OCD that they have helped others get the results that you are looking to achieve. Then don't expect it to happen over night.
