Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - The Cold, Hard Facts

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a disorder of the mind that is symptomatic of intrusive thoughts that create anxiety in the sufferer. People who suffer from this perform rituals aimed at reducing their anxiety which are oftentimes disruptive to their lives. Unfortunately, regardless of the circumstance, the sufferer's reasoning in regard to OCD is so distorted that it results in great stress for the sufferer as well as their loved ones.

For some people who suffer the effects of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, the tasks that they find themselves doing because of it can take up hours of their day which makes it hard for them to find the time to complete other more necessary tasks such as completing their work, spending time with their family, or having a social life. Pure OCD - The Most Important Facts About It

Pure OCD - How to Get Rid of it Now Before It's Too Late

Pure OCD can be tough for anyone who does not have solid information on what it is. Let's go ahead and clear that up right now shall we? Alright, here it is. Sometimes people have obsessive thoughts that really get to them in such a way that they perform mental rituals to try to alleviate the anxiety that they feel. Some of the time people will automatically dismiss these thoughts and these are the people without OCD. Sometimes people who have these thoughts panic about them, these are the people with OCD. I want you to know that if you have OCD, it can be stopped, so don't lose hope. I am speaking from experience.

Some of the time, when people have pure OCD they find that it turns into physical OCD where they actually do physical rituals and this is nothing to worry about this as this is the next logical step for the brain. However what you need to know is that there is a way to stop both and I will start to describe how to do that right now. Some of the things that you can do is realize when you are having obsessive thoughts. Once you realize this tell yourself, "Stop!" Then ask yourself what you would rather think about like this, "What would I rather think about?" Pretty simple right?

Now what you want to do is think about things that you love, such as the beach and the waves and the ocean and the smell of the beach and the sand etc. The more detailed you can get the better. Pure OCD is something that can be mitigated by changing what you think about. Well think about this, if you are not thinking about your mental rituals, then at that moment you are not suffering from obsessive thoughts. What you need to do is to train your brain to prioritize your thoughts. People with pure OCD make a big deal out of their thoughts with panic, all this does is cement the thought in their brain more.

So don't you think for one second that I'm going to instruct you to day dream all day long to get rid of pure OCD. No, I want you to use the above example as practice. Some of the questions that you can use to divert your thinking are questions like, "What is something that I can do to make my spouse feel special?" "What are some of the things that I can do to get a raise or help more people in my business?" You can and should use diverting thoughts that will not only divert you from wasting your mental power on useless obsessions to thinking about productive things that actually matter. Can you see how powerful this can be?

Pure OCD is something that we can see as a non issue if we first learn to divert our thinking to thoughts that will actually serve us and not hurt us. We can understand now that we actually have power over the things that we focus on. We cannot control the thoughts that pop into our heads, but we can control what kind of thoughts we focus on and what kind of mental thought life we will have. What kind of thought life do want to have? One that is all about pure OCD thoughts or one that is about productive and fun things that will enrich your life and the lives of the loved ones around you? Pure OCD - Why I Hate Pure OCD

Pure OCD is the worst thing that I have ever gone through when I was struggling with OCD. The reason why it bothered me so much is because I had no clue what was going on and it made me feel like I was going crazy. What I found out Pure OCD is when we do rituals but in our heads. One of the things that I used to repeat to myself over and over is: "Hate bad, love God". Another thing that I did was repeating this mantra every time that I had a thought that I considered sinful. I have heard that other people have had thoughts that were anti-religious when the person themselves were believers as well as thinking thoughts such as taking God's name in vain, even by accident, and it scares them.

Another reason why so many people suffer with Pure OCD is because it takes doctors and therapists to recognize what it is. There are so many people that are suffering from this useless malady because professionals need to be better trained to notice when people are suffering from these thoughts. What some doctors have found out about Pure OCD is that it is harder to recognize than the other versions, this is because it's mostly contained within one's thoughts and not displayed as much on the surface. There are some behaviors that can help you understand that they deal with this type of OCD, some examples of this are silent prayers, they may also constantly ask for reassurance that they will not and/or have not committed an act that they consider wrong.

But the worst reason why I hate Pure OCD is because it requires you to think in a whole new way to get rid of it, we are used to looking at the world in a certain way and when we are faced with these internal obsessive thoughts, we have to learn how to look from the outside into minds in order to start to get a picture of what is going on. We also need to learn how to not be afraid of the fears that are associated with Pure OCD. Also note that Pure OCD is strictly obsessive thoughts and not outward rituals. What other professionals have found out about this kind of OCD is that behavioral therapy can be beneficial to those who suffer from it although this will not cure it permanently.

My brother suffered with Pure OCD for a long time, and sometimes he would act in certain ways that made me wonder if there was something wrong with him. I would notice that he would organize things in a certain way and I realized that this was started because of Pure OCD. I then helped him to realize that Pure OCD is only based in fear and if he faced the fears, the OCD could not exist. Some of the other things that I've told him about this type of OCD is that it's likely affecting him in areas he doesn't even think it is such as how he handles conversation and how he views specific things such as aligning his Xbox perpendicular to the wall to the best of his ability.

One of my favorite things about Pure OCD is the fact that once you figure out how it works, and once you figure out how to face the fears that drive it. It is relatively easy to overcome it because you develop a system. Unfortunately many people have tried medications as well as multiple types of therapies to combat their OCD and unfortunately for many people in the world this has been completely ineffective. Pure OCD - Powerful Information You Need to Know

Pure OCD as a type of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is less known than the common OCD type. This type of OCD takes the form of the sufferer fearing their own thoughts. They think things such as sporadic cursing in their minds, blasphemous statements, and gruesome images. This drives the sufferer to believe that they could be grotesquely sinful, evil at their core, or setting themselves up for future horrible actions. These thoughts drive the sufferer into behaviors that can consist of compulsory prayer, avoidance or mental habits which are meant to reduce or eliminate the anxiety they are feeling at the time.

There are many forms of treatment in regard to Pure OCD. As a first step the sufferer could delay the things that they do because of the thoughts they have (Compulsive Praying, avoidance etc). In order to progress with their treatment they need to be successful at delaying their response to the thoughts until a later point in time. Overcoming OCD is not an overnight thing, it's meant to be treated in steps rather than big leaps. Taking this step is a way to help the sufferer overcome their anxiety. As they slowly proceed with lengthening the amount of time between their thoughts and their actions in response to them, they will eventually start to feel the anxiety decrease.

The next step in overcoming Pure OCD could be to not respond to the obsessions at all. In order for a sufferer to achieve this, they need to take another look at the way they perceive the danger in their thoughts. For instance, if someone has this OCD and it's directed at religion, it could be helpful to remember that an involuntary thought should not be considered sinful and that God isn't vengeful and it's not like he'd punish someone for having an involuntary thought.

When people dealing with Pure OCD have thoughts that could be considered violent in nature, such as murdering someone or harming themselves, they could ask themselves: are my thoughts hurting people? If I imagine hurting myself am I actually hurting myself? It's important to note that people who suffer from this type of OCD rarely if ever at all actually act on these thoughts that their minds show them. An OCD Workbook by Bruce Hyman and Cherry Pedrick state that "People with the Pure-O form of OCD are extremely unlikely to ever carry out the horrific acts and urges that pop into their heads."

The ultimate goal of exposure-response prevention in regard to Pure OCD is to reduce the anxiety associated with the thoughts of the sufferer. These thoughts generally have a negative impact and can often shock or scare the sufferer. The goal is that by preventing one's self from acting on the compulsions that come along with the thoughts. With repeated encounters with the thoughts while abstaining from the compulsions that come along with them comes a reduction in anxiety, this can be to the point where the obsessions themselves begin to decrease. The Cause of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - How It's Formed in Humans

The cause of obsessive compulsive disorder in humans is all psychological, which means that it's not because of some chemical imbalance that is caused by some sort of disease or disorder. The reality is that because of the habit of OCD, in the moment when a sufferer is thinking about OCD or something related, that is when the chemicals are affected in the brain. What we can find is that there are so many people hung up on semantics, they will fight to the death to point to changes on an MRI and other medical tests. The reality is that OCD is a set of habits that is formed when the brain is trying to deal with a certain set of thoughts or situations.

It is the job of the brain to survive so the cause of obsessive compulsive disorder originates when people attempt to deal with something. This can happen even to children at a very young age. A belief is formed and it may be faulty by false associations. Just like when a child touches a hot stove because the burner was bright red and the child was curious. Then when the parent wears a shirt that is of a similar color to the hot stove and the parent goes near the child, the child may cry and no one knows why. The child has created a faulty belief that the shirt will burn him or her.

Even though the child may even know that the shirt will not really burn him or her, they still feel the anxiety and fear that they had when they touched the hot stove, so the emotions are transferred to this new situation and the logical part of the situation is trumped by the emotional part. Because there is no real way to deal with a situation like this logically that is readily thought of by the child, the child will then to turn to magic thinking where they will say something in their head, they'll lightly touch the short real quick to see if it's hot even though they know it's not. This is because the emotions of the previous experience are evoked with this new stimulus, the new stimulus being the shirt.

Another cause of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is when people are told from an early age religious teachings and or right and wrong principles and then they are taught the consequences of these things. Sometimes people will create faulty associations with these teachings. What is especially weird is that there can be adults who don't notice anything different or odd, yet the cause of obsessive compulsive disorder for them crept up on them or so it seemed. In reality people who have OCD engage in OCD like behavior before they have that moment when they realize that there is a problem. OCPD Symptoms Are Not the Same As OCD Symptoms - Here's the Difference

OCPD Symptoms are quite different than that from OCD. OCPD stands for Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder and OCD stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. People who have OCPD actually don't suffer from it like people with OCD. People with OCPD don't even know that something is wrong. They have a certain way of doing things such as making sure that things are super clean and neat. I know of someone who actually organizes the condiments in the fridge and if you move them, she'll go and change them back to her clean and neat system. Oddly enough, she does not suffer from this, instead she just sees herself as someone who is neat and clean.

Fair enough, but OCPD symptoms can be mistaken by other people as symptoms of OCD. People with OCD do rituals like the above fridge ritual but they are worried and suffer from it because they do it out of fear. The motivating factor for the girl with OCPD is because that is the way she believes things should be done. The motivating factor for someone with OCD is because they are afraid something bad will happen if they don't do their rituals. Rituals are different for all people in that two people that wash their hands obsessively are doing it because they both have their own unique fear of what will happen if they don't do it.

Some OCPD symptoms to look out for are things like extra neat rooms. Books ordered almost mathematically accurately, condiments in the fridge ordered in an obvious unnecessary order, etc. The second part in recognizing this is that the person does not seem to suffer. If they appear to be suffering or openly admit it, then they are suffering with OCD instead. What are some of the things that you can do to help someone who has OCPD?

You can start by asking them why do the things that they do. Pick something in particular. This will give you a greater insight into the thought process behind the actions. I would ask them if they ever considered doing it a different way. One of the most powerful steps is to get the person thinking about the behavior and getting them to question it for themselves. You don't want to go up to someone who is displaying OCPD symptoms and tell them that the way that they are doing it is wrong because you will just close them off emotionally and they won't be open to your help.

Another characteristic in people who display OCPD symptoms is that they will be adamant about the way that they do things. So like I said before, if you want to help someone or even yourself if you realize that you have this, you want to start to question your behavior. The odds are that people who have OCPD will never read this because they don't feel like there is anything wrong. Symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder are not always obvious and sometimes you really need to talk to a person and get to know them a little more to find out if they are indeed suffering with OCD or not. In my experience in helping people with OCD I find that sometimes there are a lot of things under the surface that even the sufferer may not have noticed and I will uncover some of those things for you right here. When you read this, I want to reflect on your own life and see if some of these things exist in your life. Noticing them will always be the first step in stopping a worse OCD habit from forming.

Symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder can be as obvious as someone actually doing rituals that would seem very strange to someone else such as touching things repeatedly or seeing someone actually wear gloves or avoid touching things that almost everyone would, like a door to the bank entrance for example. One thing that you should note is that almost all types of OCD stem from reality. Germs are a reality and disease is a reality, the faulty part of the OCD is when the sufferer believes that through some almost magical circumstances that the worst possible outcome is very likely to happen to them when in reality the odds are slim to none. Do you make irrational associations with things such as think that you will get a disease if you touch a door knob without washing your hands directly after?

Some of the other symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder are not so obvious such as counting in your head. People with a strong OCD habit tend to become good at hiding their OCD. They however cannot hide the weird vibe that people get from them. People can sense when someone has strong OCD because of the accumulated effect it has on the sufferer. However people with OCD can become diluted into believing that people don't know and that they are effectively hiding it. Do you find that you try to hide your OCD behaviors?

Another category of symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder is people who tell everyone about how much of a perfectionist they are. They'll say things like, "You know me, I have to have things a certain way." These people will almost throw a fit if things aren't done to the direct specifications or they will suppress their anxiety and disapproval of how the things were carried out. A lot of the time these people will actually go back and try to change things that they have already done or that other people have done in an attempt to "make them right." In reality, they are simply wasting their time and what is sad is that they know it. I know because I used to be one of these people and let me tell you, these were suicidal times for me.

There is hope however. You need to know that even if you have some of these symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder you don't have to let it get any worse and in fact you can even reverse the habits that you are doing by first noticing that you are doing them and then following a proven system to get rid of these OCD thoughts for good. I want you to make a schedule to face your fears. If you are afraid of touching a counter top, set times of the day that you will do this. Now you may be shaking your head saying, "Oh, CBT, ya, been there, done that." I need you to know that CBT alone does not work because your thought processes are still the same. No, instead you need to know what is going on and how to change your thought processes as you are doing this fear facing exercise.

Your current treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder may involve CBT or EFT or any of the others but you need to watch what you are saying to yourself as you are doing these things. If you face a fear but in your head say to yourself, "this is so stupid, I don't want to get germs, I can't wait until I don't have to do this anymore" you are not going to get any real progress. You need to instead change your thinking while you are doing these things into, "I am touching this counter top because I know that everyone has germs and that God made my body strong enough to protect me from germs, I am showing myself right now that touching the counter top is ok because it's normal and I am a normal person just like most other people."

Signs of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - How to Stop OCD Now

Signs of obsessive compulsive disorder are not always obvious, especially to those who don't have OCD. Sometimes you really need to pay close attention to someone who may have these signs to see them. I know someone who has a kid that always touches a certain part of the front door before they leave and when they come home. I told her that she needs to not let him do that. See, he is too young to understand and if she teaches him not to engage in OCD behavior when he is young, he will be less likely to engage in it when he is older.

I assume now that you are older since you are reading this and you may have developed your OCD habit over several years and now you are trying to find a way to stop the monster that you have created without even knowing about it. The signs of obsessive compulsive disorder in adults is not too different. You may still touch the same part of the door as the kid in the above paragraph. You may do other things. In fact OCD in people is like snowflakes, from a distance they all look the same, but when you look closer, each case is unique in it's own way. If you touch a doorknob, maybe you can replace that action with thinking about one way that you can show that you love the people that you are about to see when you enter or exit that door. Start to think of some things you can do to make the lives of the ones you love better. Overcoming Obsessive Thoughts - Taking Down the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Beast

Overcoming obsessive thoughts is not easy for anyone at first. You need to understand that it really is counter intuitive. In fact, the "secret" to most things is counter intuitive! So start to think like this and you will start to see things in ways that you never thought you would. One thing that you should note is that when you simply tell yourself to do something, it does not mean that you will all of a sudden start to do this. Let's use dieting for example. Millions of people tell themselves that they have to workout or eat less, but often most of them never follow through with it long enough for it to have an impact and worse, some get results, then go back to their old ways and lose all the benefits they got from their previous hard work!

So how can you apply this to overcoming obsessive thoughts? You can do this by simply sticking with something that is working for you until the results are so ingrained that they are permanent. Most people will only do something long enough until they get the result that they want or a result that is "close enough" to the desired result. However, they do not stick with it and therefore lose the result and that is when they say things like, "oh, I tried that, it doesn't work." It's not that it doesn't work, but rather, you stopped. Period. The reason why they stopped is because they were relying on something called "willpower." If you are hungry and you keep telling yourself that you are not hungry, after a while you will not be able to keep up this charade and you will give in and pig out!

Instead, you must do things like change your metabolism and become active so that you will not be sitting around thinking about eating all the time. The same thing applies when you are overcoming obsessive thoughts, you must understand that you need to change other habits that make you more susceptible to the habit of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD is something that is so misunderstood that it is really hard to get people to even believe the truth about it. You need to put aside the social conditioning that you have been put through. Think about this, almost all of the commercials on TV are about insurance, lawyers, or pharmaceutical drugs!

When you are overcoming obsessive thoughts you need to understand that it is a viscous beast if you do not understand it, but when you understand it, it's a gentle kitten that will do whatever you tell it to. If you try to get rid of OCD the wrong way, it's like trying to lift a thousand pound rock and then hold it up! However, if you have the right mental tools, it will be like lifting up a thousand pound rock with a crane and then setting the crane in the off position when the rock is at the desired height. OCD - This is a Must Read If You Suffer From Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

What kind of information do you need to get rid of your Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? What is it that you want in your life? What kind of quality of life are you looking for? How long do you want to suffer with OCD?

These are big questions that need to be answered. You need to know where you are going or how are you ever going to get there? You need to create direction in your life by deciding right now that you are going to make some positive changes in your life. You need to understand that there are things you can do right now to create that necessary change.

So what are you going to do? Who are you going to believe? Someone who learned about OCD in a class or from a set of books written by others who didn't have OCD? You have to realize that the only way to get over OCD is to learn from people who have had OCD, know what it's like and who have beaten it. That is the only way, period.

So now you have a decision to make. You can go and frequent the OCD forums and join the pity party or you can go and do something about your OCD. Another thing that you should know is that once you stop associating with other people with OCD, you will start to get better and only then, period!

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Personality - What You Need to Do to Stop it Forever

Obsessive compulsive disorder personality can really put a damper on your life is you leave it unchecked. So what is it then that you can do so that this doesn't happen to you?
